Many men face the problem of gynecomastia, which is the emergence of the breast in a large way such that the appearance of their breasts is very close to the breast of women, which causes embarrassment for many men and forces them to do what is called male breast reduction.

Causes of gynecomastia in men

There are many reasons, the most important of which is:
– The low level of testosterone in men that exposes them to this problem.
– Excessive in the level of the estrogen hormone present in women, which causes men to have gynecomastia.
– Physiologically: this occurs in the elderly, adolescents, and infants.

Surgical methods for male breast reduction

It is possible to get rid of gynecomastia using the liposuction method, but if the patient has an increase in breast tissue, he must meet with an expert plastic surgeon who may request liposuction using (VASER), then treatment can be applied permanently using the appropriate medications prescribed by the doctor.
Gynecomastia operations are performed in the operating room under general anesthesia, and the process takes from one to two hours depending on the area to be worked on. While it is not a painful process, but there may be bruising and swelling in the area that is treated, and the pain almost disappears after three weeks. Prior to surgery, the patient can eat and stand up his feet three hours after the operation, and the patient must wear a medical corset for about a month, and the results appear after about 3 months.

There are two types of gynecomastia, which are:
Gynecomastia-type 1: is the growth of breast tissue, which is more similar to the female breast tissue.

Gynecomastia-type:2 is an increase in adipose tissue.
Mixed gynecomastia: is an increase in adipose tissue, as well as an increase in breast tissue itself.
It is noteworthy that the majority of gynecomastia patients who need male breast reduction suffer from mixed gynecomastia.

The cause of gynecomastia must first be investigated before resorting to breast reduction surgery for men. If it is due to hormonal disorders, it must be evaluated by an endocrinologist. However, if it is due to an imbalance in the levels of hormones, then it is treated by a gynecomastia specialist. The rest of the cases are dealt with surgically.
